FLACC Scale

The FLACC Scale is a tool used by doctors/parents to assess the pain level of children between the ages of two months and seven years or in patients unable to communicate their symptoms. The scale incorporates five areas: facial expression, leg movement, activity, cry, and consolability, each scored with 0 to 2 points.

Facial Expression: No particular expression or smile Occasional grimace or frown, withdrawn, disinterested Frequent to constant quivering chin, clenched jaw
Leg Movement: Normal position or relaxed Uneasy, restless, tense Kicking or legs drawn up
Activity: Lying quietly, normal position, moves easily Squirming, shifting back and forth, tense Arched, rigid or jerking
Crying: No cry (awake or asleep) Moans or whimpers, occasional complaint Crying steadily, screams or sobs, frequent complaints
Consolability: Content, relaxed Reassured by occasional touching, hugging or being talked to, distractible Difficult to console or comfort
